The Collecting Bug

What's It Wednesday #123

For those of you who follow us, you know we are big time hoarders collectors. We've shared many with you over the years, but today I'd like to give you an update on a few of them. I still love my little French clocks. I found this one recently and couldn't resist adding her to my collection. The enamel faces are so beautiful!

Now this is a real weakness too. Anything silver for the vanity gets my attention, so these were real finds. The cuticle file is so dainty, it even has an initial engraved on it as does the buffer. However, my favorite is the hair receiver! Can you imagine, a receptacle made especially for the hair from your comb or brush? Love the Victorians!

This delicate little filigreed pillbox takes pride of place in my collection.

Just think of all the work that went into making this box. Such a treasure!

Blue and white is a staple for us at Ivy & Elephants, so we always seek it out. This is a nice unusual piece, It's a Chinese brush pot for a scholar's table, not very old, but interesting just the same.

Last, my little Dutch girl flower basket lamp. I shared my fruit basket lamp here, so I thought it appropriate to share the flower one.

Here she is all lit up. Czechoslovakian lamps are getting to be almost impossible to find, which makes me cherish this little darling all the more.
These are some of the pieces I've added to my collections. What have you found lately?
Hugs,
Patti

Thanks to all of you who partied with us last week. Please link-up and join us again. Remember, it's not a party without you!

Hoarding? Absolutely not!
We share a love for dresser silver, blue and white porcelain and antique clocks. I think we could spend a very satisfying afternoon together, strolling through a flea market!
Thanks very much for making this link possible,

Hi Patti, thank you for hosting once again and I don't look at you as a hoarder (I would run a line through that word if I knew how!) but as a soul sister. Collecting can sometimes be a blessing or a curse! Your's, however, is exquisite. Love those little lamps..Happy Wednesday..Judy

There is nothing I love more than a pretty vanity. I remember years ago Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion featured several styles of vanities and I loved it!

I also love silver items for vanities. I have an idea!!! Why don't y'all host a vanity party!!!! It would be *fun*

Thanks for hosting, ladies!!!

I read this quote:
"Collectors are buying a lifestyle. It gives them a connection to a dream. (Penny Duncklee)" and made me think of you.
You do feel a connection to those eras you collect items from... I wonder if my non-collector stance means I don't want to go "back" (food for thought! ;)) but later as now I want to join the party and enjoy all the sharings of your friends.
Yours,
Teresa

Patti,
I love all of your collection, but the little Dutch girl made me smile. I love figurines like this. My mother-in-law has one of a girl playing the piano and I've always admired it. The blue and white section caught my eye too, and the vase is so pretty. Do you know that the blue and white tea cups are the prettiest to me?

Always a pleasure to see all your lovelies, and thank you for letting us take a peek at the things that are so special to you.

love,
~Sheri

Gorgeous and lovely Patti, HELLO! I chuckled with your hoarders/collector statement! teehehheeee

I was cleaning out my house yesterday and had an impromtu yard sale. You would have enjoyed it; I sold a lot (but kept a lot) of vintage items. What did I do after my grand sale? I went out and bought a silver tea set I've had my eyes on! LOL

Thank you so much for coming to visit me dear one. I hope you are well and by now, you are on summer vacation as well as I am! BLISS!

I hope you get a chance to read The Waiting, and if you do order SP magazine, enjoy. It's a new publication and I am honored to get my "start" by writing about artists.

BE WELL! Anita

I had such a love for the Victorian era when we first moved into this house, Patti. Floral wallpaper everywhere, lace curtains, doilies, ferns and my big love, silver! None of that is here anymore, I like things a little more open and airy, but when we find a bed & breakfast in an old Victorian house, I miss that feel!

Thanks so much for popping in! :)
